CIRTL Level Associate


Associate Level

CLT Programming - complete one of the following: (1) Completion of Certificate in University Teaching and Learning OR (2) Completion of Faculty Certificate in Teaching and Learning

CIRTL Programming: Attend at least 6 – 10 hours CIRTL Network offerings across each of the CIRTL themes to supplement and enhance the work you’re doing in Dalhousie. (Please obtain proof of registration by downloading a copy of your receipt of registration and the description of each event you attend.)

Reflective Writing Documenting Your Experience: Respond to the CIRTL Reflection Questions (see Questions with Rubrics) to demonstrate how your CLT programming work and CIRTL Network participation has contributed to your professional development and teaching and learning practice (minimum 750 words). Also include a copy of your Teaching Philosophy.

NB: Each CIRTL level requires the participant to take unique CIRTL Network Offerings to fulfill this requirement.

Associate Level Reflective Questions and Assessment Rubric

  • Reflect on the range of evidence-based practices you have learned during your Associate programming. How do you see these practices being integrated into your teaching and learning practice?
  • How has your participation in CLT and CIRTL programming contributed to your professional development and/or teaching and learning practice? (Please include reference to specific programming that you have attended and consider reflecting upon the CIRTL Core Themes: Core Themes: i) Learning-through-diversity, ii) Teaching-as-Research, iii) Learning Communities.)
  • Include a copy of your teaching philosophy.

  Met Expectations Has Not Met Expectations Not Present
Alignment between teaching philosophy and experience. Reflection articulates alignments between teaching philosophy and the use of evidence-based practices. Reflection does not make clear connection between teaching philosophy and the use of evidence-based practices. No connection between teaching philosophy and the use of evidence-based practices and did not include a copy of their teaching philosophy.
Application of learning. Reflection focuses on application and integration of learning into teaching practice through the use of specific examples. Reflection incorporates some application to practice but does not provide examples of practice. Application to practice is not discussed. 
Clarity of reflection Reflections are written in a narrative form and allows the reader to fully comprehend the impact of the CLT/CIRTL programming on their teaching progress. Reflections are not written in a narrative form and the impact of the CLT/CIRTL programming on their teaching progress is difficult to understand. Reflections are difficult to follow, and there is little to no reflection on teaching progress.
