Tips, Tricks, & Tunes: Music as an Educational Tool in the Post-Secondary Classroom

Music has had a role in a variety of educational contexts including history, math, language studies, sociology/anthropology, neuroscience, and more. But how many educators are comfortable using this borderless human experience as a tool in their classrooms? This discussion-based workshop aims to equip the educator with a variety of engaging new techniques to promote a positive student experience, a sense of community in the classroom, knowledge retention, and as a means of battling mental health issues.
Neven Prostran is a musician and academic based in Halifax since 2015. He is a frequent Teaching Assistant and Guest Lecturer in Dalhousie film and music courses, as well as a private music instructor for the past ten years. His educational interests include bridging the gap between music and non-music classrooms, as well as implementing techniques and strategies from private education into the classroom setting. Neven is currently a faculty member at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts. When he's not performing or teaching, Neven enjoys exploring Halifax's countless attractions, drawing, and learning new skills.
