Being Gentle: Acts of Self-Compassion in Teaching
Phillip Joy, PhD Candidate
Graduate Teaching Associate, CLT
Have you ever had doubts about your teaching or been critical of it? Are you feeling stressed, anxious, or nervous about teaching? Are you finding yourself overworked and frustrated with interacting with students or being in front of a large group? This discussion session will explore how we can be more self-compassionate as teachers. The workshop will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the relationship between your health and teaching, as well as to explore how self-compassion can enhance classroom experiences for yourself and your learners. It aims to provide strategies that may help you cope with the daily stresses of teaching.
