Making Time, Taking Time
Dr. Suzanne Le-May Sheffield
Director, Centre for Learning and Teaching
Over the last decade faculty increasingly feel they lack time for concentrated attention in all aspects of their lives. We see the same time-poverty amongst students. And yet many of us yearn for timelessness, the experience of being immersed in a moment in time, a class, an idea, a project, or a hobby. How can we become aware of what matters most to us, learn to be kind to ourselves and each other, be present and focused in the moment, and less fearful and more joyful. This workshop will explore the impact of this speed-up on your life and work, consider how you might ‘make’ and ‘take’ time for the most important people and projects in your life, and how the same approaches might be transferred to your classrooms and thus into students’ lives as well.
