Effective Lecturing

Brad Wuetherick, Executive Director
Centre for Learning and Teaching

Lecturing remains a common part of the teaching and learning landscape in higher education, in spite of evidence that shows there might be better practices for supporting students’ learning.  There will always be, however, a place for lecturing in the higher education classroom, but it is a teaching modality that requires attention and practice to implement effectively.  In this workshop I will focus on exploring when lecturing makes sense, when it doesn’t, and how to maximize its effectiveness through organization, effective presentation skills, and active student engagement.
