Effective Learning Strategies for Quantitative Analysis in a University Environment

Joan Conrod
Rowe School of Business

Professor Joan Conrod, one of Dalhousie University's most acclaimed teachers, was the 2013 recipient of the 3M National Teaching Fellowship. The fellowship is sponsored by 3M Canada and the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

What can we as instructors do to foster deep knowledge of complex quantitative-based analysis?   What factors come together to create a supportive learning environment? How do instructors transform their content knowledge into  pedagogically powerful learning experiences in the  classroom?  What approaches appropriately test or assess such learning?

This seminar is hosted by Joan Conrod, 2013 National  Teaching Fellow, whose discussion of some of her successful teaching and learning approaches in financial accounting will highlight more broadly some of the challenges in math, science and engineering. Participants will be encouraged to share their own teaching experiences with each other to enrich the learning strategies of their students.
