Why are we doing this?: Enhancing scientific appreciation and skill development in the classroom and laboratory
Research shows that many students complete a science course or undergraduate program without learning to appreciate the scientific process or think like a scientist. This session will briefly introduce participants to the goals of classroom and laboratory science learning from the perspective of both faculty and students.
Interactive discussions will focus on tips, tricks, and small activities that you can use within the existing course design to create an engaging learning environment where you help students understand how course activities are relevant to their lives as individuals and scientists. By showcasing scientific relevance you can help students think and feel like a scientist and ultimately build lasting attitudes, research skills and habits essential for the process of science.
