Reflective learning: Why we should make time to think.
Jill Marie McSweeney, IDPhD Student
Graduate Teaching Associate
Centre for Learning and Teaching
All too often we consider productive and successful work to be fast-paced actions that end with a tangible product. The demanding, competitive, and output-centred culture of higher education often seeps into teaching and learning- where focus is on ingesting and repeating knowledge rather than encouraging students to reflect and contemplate. This discussion will focus on what reflection is (and isn't); how it can be used as a life-long learning skill; and how to encourage it in students, and yourself.
