Discussion Group: Gaming and Higher Education Session 1
Gamification: What is it, and how can I use it?
Games are fun, and people spend hours playing them. How can we, as educators, take advantage of the motivation and engagement that come so naturally from games? In this session, we will discuss the idea of gamification. First, we will focus on the components of games that result in increased engagement from players, and examine why players are so motivated by these game characteristics. Then, we will explore ways in which these components can be introduced into an educational setting and attempt to implement some of these ideas in the context of the discussion series.

- This video is long, but the purpose is to give you some exposure to the techniques that are used to gamify websites. We will be attempting to generalize some of these ideas to an educational setting.
