In preparation for the Nova Scotia Phase Five Reopening plan that was supposed to take effect September 15 (now delayed until October 4), we took the opportunity to review our current residence restrictions in the Residence Community Living Guide including the Residence Code of Conduct. With the province reporting a cumulative 139 new cases of COVID-19 with 36 cases in the Central Zone from the last 5 days and signs of community spread among those aged 20-40 who are unvaccinated and participating in social activities, we will not be making adjustments to residence restrictions at this time, other than the noted items below.

While we are encouraged that the province may move to Phase Five in the coming weeks and with Dalhousie’s vaccination rates on campus and in residence, we will be proceeding with great caution. As such, current residence policies and restrictions (as outlined in the Residence Community Living Guide) will remain as is with special note of the following:

  • Possession and consumption of alcohol and cannabis will not be permitted for the entirety of the fall term.
  • The current no guest policy will be added to the Residence Emergency Restrictions and extended until at least October 31.
  • Current mandatory masking in all public areas of residence buildings will be added to the Residence Emergency Restrictions and extended until at least October 31.

The team will review restrictions again at the end of October with potential changes starting November 1, 2021.

As shared with you via email on September 5, our success as a residence community is based on two fundamentally important commitments: 1) following the rules, including public health guidelines and 2) showing respect for each other (students, staff and faculty) in keeping everyone safe through our individual actions. Dalhousie remains committed to doing our part to providing a residence community which supports the health, safety and wellbeing of students and staff who live and learn as well as work in our residences.
