Varsity sports

Dal is a member of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference with over 300 student-athletes, coaches, and team staff representing the university in seven sports. Dalhousie has both men's and women's teams in basketball, hockey, soccer, swimming, track and field, cross country, and volleyball. The Tigers are no strangers to AUS and CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) championships. Check the Tigers website if you're interested in trying out for a Dalhousie varsity team.

On the Agricultural Campus, Dal students can also cheer for the Rams who play in the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association). There are currently eight varsity teams wearing the black and gold.

Intramural sports

Intramural sports are a great way to escape the stress and strain of daily academic commitments. They're fun, free, and an excellent way to meet other students who share similar interests. With the goal of providing ‘something for everyone’, Dal offers a number of individual and team intramural sports for you to choose from.

There's also a strong intramural system in place on the Agricultural Campus, with points awarded to Residence Houses on campus (which come with requisite bragging rights).

Club sports

Not keen on being a full varsity athlete but still want to represent Dal in competition? We have more than 20 different (Tier 1 and Tier 2) clubs for you to choose from—everything from rugby, rowing, and lacrosse to cheerleading, badminton, and sailing. Check online for more info on all our Tier 1 and Tier 2 competitive (and non-competitive) sports clubs.

Fitness and recreation

Located on South Street, Dalplex is Dalhousie's primary fitness and recreation centre and features a new climate-controlled fitness centre with new cardio and strength-training equipment and ample natural light, four studios with over 35 weekly drop-in fitness classes, a high performance training room and three new locker rooms, including a universal locker room. Full-time Dal students also get access to the newly renovated fieldhouse, complete with brand new hardwood flooring, to play basketball, volleyball, badminton, or pickleball, or walk/run on the 1/6-mile indoor track. Additional facilities include: a new spin studio, the 8-lane, 50m indoor pool, squash (5) and racquetball (1) courts, an outdoor turf field, table tennis tables, two outdoor tennis courts (seasonal), two climbing walls, and additional locker rooms on the level closer to the pool. Students can rent equipment like basketballs and badminton racquets for free and can also register for boot camps, Pilates, yoga classes, climbing programs, first aid classes and much more, all at a significant discount.

Full-time students also have access to the Sexton Gym on Sexton Campus, which includes a main gymnasium, a fitness centre with cardio and strength-training equipment, a stretching room, and a selection of group fitness classes.

On the Agricultural Campus, the Langille Athletic Centre offers a cardio room, weight room, double gymnasium, and racquetball and squash courts.
