Registering For Courses
Registration information for first-year students
If you're entering your first year at Dalhousie and are going through our registration process for the first time, read through our First-Year Students and Before you Begin sections for important steps that need to be completed prior to selecting and registering for courses. Watch our Registration tutorial videos, and follow our step-by-step guide, for how to register.
Did you complete the pre-registration checklist?
Before you can register for courses, be sure you have completed the criteria in the the Before you Begin section.
Have your course information ready
When choosing your courses, you should have collected course information as you created your schedule. You'll need the following information as you register for each course.
- Course subject (e.g., Biology).
- Course number (e.g., 1020) and section.
- Course Reference Number (CRN) for each course, lab and tutorial.
Check back in the summer for added courses
Early registration gives the university the time to identify and respond to demand for new courses or to add more sections where required. Check the timetable throughout the summer to see which courses have been added.
