Halifax Open House on Saturday October 22, 2022 is our largest event, with a wide variety of programming to choose from, allowing you to tailor your day to your interests.

NOTE: Event check-in opens at 8:00 a.m. Programming will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. To ensure a smooth start, be sure to schedule time for parking and possible traffic. Pre-registration is required.


Make the most of your time at Open House by taking part in a variety of activities!

The day kicks off with a series of sessions on admissions, educational financing, academics and more. These 45-minutes sessions take place at 9am, 10am and 11am. 

Starting at noon, take part in a whole set of new opportunities to immerse yourself in life as a Dal student.

Take a campus, residence, or athletic facility tour. Explore all we have to offer, and get your questions answered one-on-one by faculty, advisors and current students, at the academic, student support and campus life fairs.

Connect with other Dal bound students by taking part in our QR code scavenger hunt, yoga on the quad, hidden gem prize hunt, group paint activity or the speed friending social. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pre-registration for the event and specific activities is required. Some have limited capacity, so don’t wait to sign-up. Once full, activities will be removed from the registration page.

You’re welcome to pick and choose, and take in as much of as little of the programming as you want. You can start and end your day with us when you wish.

Admissions Advising Lounge



Students who attend the Halifax Open House on October 22, 2022 and apply for direct-entry undergraduate admission by Monday October 24, 2022 will receive priority processing from our admissions team.

Applications received from Canadian and US high school students, transfer applicants and international students (who have completed high school) will be given priority in the review process.

Steps required to receive early admission

  1. Complete your online application for admission* (available starting October 15, 2022).
  2. Send official transcripts** (high school graduates and transfer applicants only)
  3. Pay your application fee.

If you have questions about completing your undergraduate application to study at Dalhousie or wish to chat with an advisor, visit the Admissions Advising Lounge on event day. 

*Open House priority processing is being offered for direct-entry undergraduate programs only and is not available for Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Science in Nursing applicants. 

**Current high school students in Canada who received numerical final grades for the 2021-2022 school year can self-report their grades without transcripts during the early admission period. US applicants should provide their most recent full high school transcript.  International high school students are not able to be assessed for admissions until January 2023.


Session registration is first-come, first-served. Register early for the most choice of programming. Once sessions fill, they will be removed from the registration form.

Those who register before Monday October 3, 2022, will be entered to win a $50 Dal Bookstore gift card.

Registration will formally close at noon on Friday October 21, 2022.

This session takes place on the Sexton Campus. It is located a 15 minute walk from the main Studley Campus. A shuttle bus will be running between campuses on Open House day between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Admissions Advising Lounge


Visit the Admissions Advising Lounge to chat with an advisor and get your questions answered. If Open House inspires you to apply, there will also be stations and support available to submit your application.

NOTE: Application fees are not waived for Open House attendees, to ensure fairness all, including those unable to attend the event.


Take part in one or more of our activities, and get a jump start on meeting new people. Many students meet their first university friends at Open House, and stay in touch all they way through until they arrive on-campus.

Your options include:

  • Yoga on the quad @ 12:30 p.m.
  • Hidden gems prize hunt (at your own pace between 12:00-3:00 p.m.)
  • Group art project (stop by the Home Base Tent anytime between 12:00-3:00 p.m.)
  • QR group scavenger hunt @1:00 p.m.
  • Speed friending social @ 1:30 p.m.



Departing on the half hour:

Join a condensed walking tour of the Studley Campus, with a current student as your guide. Visit key spaces, learn interesting facts, and hear about the student experience first-hand.

Take a guided tour of our main athletic facility. The new addition includes a bright and airy fitness hall and group class studios, gendered and non-gendered change facilities, and a high performance gym for varsity athletes. Renovations have also taken place in the original facility, which includes a pool, field house, spin studio, climbing walls, and more!

12:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Visit Risley Hall and connect with our Residence team to learn more about life on-campus. See a mock residence room and dining hall, as well as images from our other residence buildings.

Note: For the health and safety of our current residents, attendees will only be able to visit public spaces. Masks are required.
