Dalhousie Campus

  1. Bookstore: Open Mon- Fri 10 am- 1 pm and 2-4 pm. Hours vary by term 
  2. Cox Greenhouses – peek into a small corner of our 250 hectare farm and facilities, in which our research is helping to innovate new technologies for environmental sustainability, rural growth, and bio-resource innovation in support of the agri-food and aquaculture industries. 
  3. Alumni Gardens - our breathtaking, impeccably maintained gardens are a highlight of the Truro Campus. Beloved by the community and guests, our gardens are also valuable teaching tools—you’ll see the work and care of generations of Dalhousie students as you stroll the pathways. 
  4. MacRae Library and Student Learning Commons - designated as a place for relaxing, studying, socializing, and accommodating the many varying needs of Dalhousie students. Visit our self-serve Barley Café, or take a moment to learn the history of the Mi’Kmaq by visiting our mural wall 
  5. Rock Garden – visit the largest rock garden east of Montreal and take in some of our outdoor classroom spaces 
  6. Haley Institute – Home to our Animal Science and Aquaculture programs, take a peek into our Aquaculture facilities for a look at shellfish and finfish research  
  7. Berlin Wall Sections - Six pieces of the Berlin Wall travelled from Germany to Truro in 2000 and were eventually brought to the Truro Campus in 2011. 
  8. Langille Athletic Centre - Work out, play a game of squash, or take a class at the athletics centre. Go Rams!

Things to do in Truro

  1. Visit the renowned Truro Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning for great food, local produce, and live music. 
  2. Explore the area’s nature and wildlife while walking, hiking, cycling, skiing, or snowshoeing the Cobequid Trail. (Maybe a note to add that 2km of the trail runs directly alongside the campus?) 
  3. Walk downtown Truro and study at a local coffee shop. 
  4. Experience the incredible tidal bore of Canada’s Bay of Fundy, home to the world‘s highest tides — one of the seven natural wonders of North America. 
  5. Explore cascading waterfalls, scenic hiking trails and serene landscapes at Victoria Park
  6. Take in a night of the arts at Marigold Cultural Centre with a stroll around the MMFI Art Gallery, or catch one of the many musical, theatrical, live comedy, and dance performances put on for the community and surrounding areas. 
  7. Live a healthy active lifestyle at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre and go for a swim in the two pools and a 2.5 story water slide, climb the indoor 35’ high rock climbing wall or go for a stroll on the walking/jogging track free for public use. You can also catch a Truro Junior A Bearcats hockey game or a rock concert!

Day Trips

  1. Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse and Village, also known as Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, is one of Nova Scotia’s most well-known lighthouses and may be the most photographed in Canada. Located in the quaint fishing village of Peggy’s Cove along the South Shore, Peggy’s Point Lighthouse was built in 1915. Distance from campus: 1 hour, 39 minute drive 
  2. Old Town Lunenburg is one of only two urban communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Lunenburg’s harbour-side streets are lined with unique shops and award-winning restaurants that blend with the well-preserved and colourfully painted historic homes, much of it like a living museum from the 18th century. Distance from campus: 2 hour, 1 minute drive 
  3. Cape Breton Known for the world-renowned Cabot Trail, dramatic coastal views and a variety of hiking trails, Cape Breton is a place filled with outdoor adventure, scenic drives and breathtaking views, and the freshest seafood imaginable. Distance from campus: 2 hours, 57 minute drive
