Applying for Undergraduate Studies

Start your journey to Dalhousie

The following steps are for new applicants from Canadian and international high schools and post-secondary institutions.

Current and former Dalhousie students should check the instructions and steps here to apply to change or return to their program.

Mature students and visiting students have different application processes.

How to apply

Step 1: Choose your program

Dalhousie offers a wide range of programs to build an educational experience that is tailored to you. You can apply for up to three programs. You'll only be assessed for your second and third choices if you're not admitted to your first choice.

If you’re applying to the Faculty of Agriculture, please note all programs are located at the Agricultural campus in Truro, N.S.

Please note: Some undergraduate programs require previous university experience (Dental Hygiene, Environmental Design Studies, Meteorology, Pharmacy and Social Work).

Step 2: Review the requirements

Once you’ve selected your program:

  1. Review the general admission requirements.
  2. Check if your program has additional requirements.
  3. If you’re applying from outside of Canada, make sure you meet the international equivalency requirements for your country.
  4. If English isn’t your first language, check the English language requirements.

Step 3: Complete an application for admission

Three years of secondary schooling is generally required to review for admission. For an initial assessment, first-semester or mid-year results (predicted where applicable) can be reviewed if your final year is still in progress.

To start the application process, create an admission login ID and pin on Dal Online. Select your application type (see below) and your desired admission term.

Step 4: Pay the application fee

To complete your application to undergraduate studies, you'll need to pay the $70 CAD application fee.

Please be advised that fee payments must be made online. Dalhousie is unable to receive in-person payments until further notice.

Step 5: Submit your required documents

Each applicant must submit an official transcript, however your program may require supplemental forms and documentation.

Official transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution.  Please submit transcripts to admissions.documents@dal.ca

If you are mailing your transcripts, please note that there may be a delay in processing your application. As our staff are working remotely, we are only able to access the mail once per week.

Your transcripts must be in an original sealed envelope addressed to:

Registrar's Office, Dalhousie University
Henry Hicks Academic Admin Building, Room 130
6299 South Street
PO Box 15000, Halifax, N.S., B3H 4R2

Please note: If you send first-semester or mid-year transcripts, you must also submit final results when they are issued.

If you are an applicant with a MyCreds/MesCertif, My eQuals or Digitary CORE account you can share your digital documents with us by selecting the 2nd Share option “Send my documents to a Registered Organization” and then select "Dalhousie University-Undergraduate and Professional programs" in the Recipient field. Helpful videos are available on the MyCreds site.
