Why study Veterinary Technology at Dalhousie?
Gain career-directed knowledge and skills
Do you want to become an integral part of a veterinary medical team? The Veterinary Technology program offered at our Faculty of Agriculture in Truro gets you there.
The Veterinary Technology program is accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and our animal facilities are approved for teaching by the Canadian Council on Animal Care. You'll also learn in our clinic which is accredited by the Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association.
The two-year diploma program is designed to prepare students to work as technicians with practicing veterinarians, researchers and other professionals who deal with animals in medical or scientific environments. Enrolment to the program is limited to 40, so students benefit from small classes and close interactions with faculty.
While our focus is on small animal private practice, our program also includes a large animal component for those who want to work in mixed practices or further develop their clinical skills in livestock and equine medicine. You'll be exposed to a variety of species including livestock, equine and lab animal species.
You'll also gain practical experience by learning hands-on at our dedicated small animal veterinary teaching hospital and our campus farm, where you'll have access to diverse animal units, excellent facilities and knowledgeable staff.
Please note, this program has an early application date of February 28.
