Alumni story

Turning passion into purpose

Erik Penz (BA'95) came to Dalhousie knowing he wanted to eventually enter law. But he also wanted to do something concrete with his passion for history. Less than two years after graduating, Erik co-founded the Dominion Institute (now called the Historica-Dominion Institute) to promote Canadian history and civics. He's now also a Toronto-based partner in the international law firm, Macleod Dixon.

I knew I wanted to be a lawyer before I started, but it was reinforced by my studies of the origins of our legal system under Professor Cynthia Neville, who teaches classes on mediaeval Europe.
