Why study Classics at Dalhousie?
The very idea of university–the systematic study of logic, theology, science, philosophy, medicine–has its roots in ancient Greece. Studying the philosophy, literature, history and languages of ancient Greece and Rome forms the core of our program, but Classics is a crossroads between Western and Eastern thought.
We examine how the fundamental ideas, beliefs, and institutions formed when Greek and Middle Eastern cultures met thousands of years ago. Through us, you can learn Latin, ancient Greek, and modern Arabic. Modern languages are full of words deriving from Greek and Latin, and classical myths have inspired everything from Shakespearean drama to Disney films.
Classics starts you on a journey of discovery that lasts a lifetime.
