An undergraduate degree in chemistry provides you with many career opportunities inside and outside the scientific community. However, if you want to be at the centre of cutting edge research or manage complex research projects, you should think seriously about doing a masters or a doctorate degree in chemistry.
Our graduate program has an international reputation. Dalhousie consistently ranks as one of the best places in Canada for postdocs in The Scientist magazine. Our research grants currently total approximately $2.1-million a year. The graduate program is the largest east of Montreal and the only PhD chemistry graduate program in Nova Scotia.
Many more of our graduates follow other career paths that require other skills. For example, you could obtain a BEd degree and become a high school teacher, or complete a professional degree to become a doctor or a pharmacist.
