Specific requirements for the Dentistry program

The Faculty of Dentistry will consider applications to the Doctor in Dental Surgery (DDS) program from individuals who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and the DDS Qualifying Program* from individuals who have received their former education outside the Canadian educational system. Applicants must fulfill the stated admission requirements for the program of study, as well as any Canadian immigration student visa requirements (note that there are special student visa requirements for international students entering a health care program, and students should review the Canadian immigration website).  

If the applicant's first language is not English, he/she must complete and receive a minimum score in an English language proficiency test, such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Original supporting documents from previously completed education must be provided, including course descriptions, explanations of the grading systems used, and course standings.

*applicants to the Qualifying Program must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada

  1. Check the undergraduate application deadlines. Your application, all supporting documents and application fee should be received by this date.
  2. Check the admission requirements for your chosen program.
  3. Prepare the additional documents listed on the application form, such as official transcripts, letters, etc.
  4. Check to see if you need to send supplemental forms and documents.

Official transcripts

  1. All transcripts should be sent to Dalhousie either directly from your school, college or university; or, you can send them to us if they are in the original, sealed envelope.

  2. Transcripts should be provided in English. If your transcript is not in English, then we need an official English translation and the original language version.The translator must be certified and this should be indicated with a stamp or seal and signature on the documentation.

English Language Requirements

Courses at Dalhousie are taught in English. If your first language is not English, you need to provide proof of English language proficiency.

Application fee

  • Dalhousie's. undergradute application fee is $70 CAD.

How can I pay?

You can pay your application fee online during the application process, or visit the the Registrar’s Office website for information on how to pay by phonefaxmail or in person.

We accept: 

  • Visa, Mastercard or American Express
  • Cheque (payable to Dalhousie University) On the back of the cheque, print the applicant's full name and, if applicable, web application number (e.g., A141103).
  • Money Order (payable to Dalhousie University)
  • Bank Draft (payable to Dalhousie University)
  • Cash (at the Registrar's Office; please do not send cash in the mail)
