Description

The MLIS/JD combined degree is a 4 year course of study leading to the combined degrees Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) and Juris Doctor (JD). A total of 12 half-credit MLIS courses (36 credit hours) and 79 to 83 JD credit hours are needed to complete the MLIS/JD program.

Admissions

Separate application packages must be submitted to each department.
Students who apply for the combined MLIS/JD program must meet the admissions standards of both the Schulich School of Law and the School of Information Management.

  • Not all courses are offered every year. It is the students' responsibility to ensure they plan their schedule accordingly. Combined degree students are advised on an individual basis to assist with course selection.
  • If you choose "Other" for the Advanced technology requirement it must first be approved by the MLIS Program Coordinator.

  • MGMT 5000: To be taken in the final year of the MLIS/JD degree.
  • INFO 5570: To be taken in the final year of the MLIS/JD degree.
  • Students may take electives outside SIM
  • As indicated in section 5.1 of the Graduate Studies Calendar (under “Program Fee Programs”), combined degree students must register for REGN 9999 in every term to ensure fees are generated properly. This course is listed as “Registration Course-Graduate” in the Academic Timetable.
