What inspires me

I’m inspired when I look to the ancient world and see lessons that are still relevant today. 3,000 years ago, Homer, in Book 24 of the Iliad showed the reconciliation between mortal enemies, Priam and Achilles. They are united by their common humanity: Achilles doesn’t see the enemy king; he sees his own father. Priam doesn’t see the man who slew so many of his sons, but rather he gazes “in wonder upon Achilles, so like the gods in beauty.” Perhaps more than ever, we today need to be able to move beyond our differences and, like Priam and Achilles, find joy in one another, despite our differences.
