Sara Whynot (DHSA‘10)

A day in the life

Sara Whynot (DHSA‘10)

Sara Whynot

I was reminded how much I enjoy learning and learning about things that are not necessarily about my work.

Planting a seed

For Sara Whynot, the chance to upgrade her skills is what attracted her to pursue a Diploma in Health Services Administration (DHSA).

Sara has worked with the Department of Anesthesia at Dalhousie since 1990 and felt the diploma would be a great opportunity to make herself more marketable. She presently works as a research facilitator, a position which involves managing research portfolios in the department.

“It’s a jack of all trades position,” says Sara.

In a nutshell, she helps researchers launch their research programs within the university. Her duties include helping researchers with financing their projects, ethics submissions, Health Canada regulations/compliance and finding the appropriate resources.

Sara received her DHSA in October 2010 and pursued her diploma while she was working full-time.

Finding synergies

She enjoyed the experience of studying online.

“I’m very techie,” says Sara, adding that she found the curriculum fit well with what she was working on in her day-to-day work life.

One thing the experience reinforced was her passion for education.

“I was reminded how much I enjoy learning and learning about things that are not necessarily about my work,” she says.
