Faculty and Staff RSVP

There are a number of ways that faculty and staff members can participate in Convocation should they wish to volunteer for this event. Please reach out to convocation@dal.ca for further information.

Faculty and staff members who will be participating onstage are asked to arrive at the venue a half hour before the ceremony begins and identify themselves to the Grand Marshal to help facilitate the faculty and staff member line-up process.

If you do not own your regalia, you must reserve academic dress in advance for the occasion. The deadline to reserve academic dress for Summer 2022 Convocation ceremonies is Monday, June 27.

If you miss the rental dedaline, please visit the Gowns Room during the open hours noted below for on-the-spot assistance.

Academic dress — also known as academic costume or regalia — are the distinctive gowns and hoods worn by all participants (including faculty members and university officials who sit onstage) during a Convocation ceremony.

The tradition of graduates wearing gowns and hoods dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries. This tradition continues today at Dalhousie University to signify a graduate’s academic accomplishment. A description of our gowns and hoods is available here.
