POSTING DATE: July 28, 2016
APPLICATION DEADLINE:  August 19, 2016

WORK ASSIGNMENT
The History of Science and Technology Programme (HOST) is looking for a part-time instructor to teach the course HSTC 2210: Engineering the Planet: The Anthropocene Era, from Prehistory to Today's Global Crisis during the 2017 Winter semester (the course’s weekly schedule will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate). The course is meant as an introduction to environmental history suitable for both majors and students looking for an interesting and meaningful elective. Its calendar entry reads as follows:

“Technological developments have had such a fundamental impact on the environment that geologists are now contemplating the idea that the planet might have entered a new geological epoch, the Anthropocene, in which humans would be the main geophysical force at play. This course critically examines this debate by offering a historical survey of the impact of human technology on the environment, from prehistory to early 21st century. Attention will also be given as to how social, political, cultural, and economic factors have influenced this history.”

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class (including advertising, office hours, etc.). Time will be required beforehand for pre-course preparation, and afterwards for marking and administration duties. A course outline has been established, but can be modified.
