The School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES) invites applications for a probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing January 1, 2016 (negotiable).

SRES provides a dynamic setting for creative, interdisciplinary scholarship that addresses societal challenges related to natural resources, the environment and human development. We have a passion for making the world a much better place through the creation, application and mobilization of knowledges that further social and ecological sustainability. SRES delivers two programs: a thesis-based Master of Environmental Studies (MES) and a course-based Master of Resource and Environmental Management (MREM). SRES faculty also teach in the undergraduate Bachelor of Management and Environment, Sustainability and Society programs, the latter offered through Dalhousie’s College of Sustainability. Faculty also supervise PhD students through Dalhousie’s Interdisciplinary PhD program.

We are seeking a colleague with interdisciplinary competences related to biophysical sciences. The ideal candidate would also have further competencies related to evaluating human impacts on the natural world, natural resource sectors, experimental research design, and statistical analyses, as well as experience related to professional practice. Reflecting Dalhousie’s priority research areas, preference may be given to applicants with expertise related to oceans and/or energy and the environment.

Applicants must have a PhD, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and enthusiasm to teach in diverse settings (large and small undergraduate classes as well as graduate classes) related to the candidate’s areas of expertise. Evidence or the promise of the ability to win research grants or contracts is important. The ability and willingness to work with colleagues constructively is essential.

The School for Resource and Environmental Studies is part of the Faculty of Management, which has a unique commitment to values-based management and interdisciplinary research and learning. Thus, the successful candidate will have opportunities to work with like-minded colleagues in the Rowe School of Business, School of Public Administration, and School of Information Management.
