PHISHING, SPAMMING AND BLACKLISTING … ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Dalhousie is currently experiencing a steady stream of phished accounts over the past several days.  Lots of spam (tax scams, fake “mystery shopper” fraud).

When in doubt, throw it out! Be wary of ANY emails asking you to do something. Those who get duped not only jeopardize their own privacy and information, but those of others. It also allows the internet scoundrels to deploy nasty attacks elsewhere from our network and YOUR COMPROMISED ACCOUNT.

We all have to deal with this, but we all must remain vigilant.

  5. From: Campus Copy
    Subject: Course readers

The end of the semester is here and Campus Copy is looking ahead to another course reader season. Just a reminder that if you're interested in producing a course reader for an upcoming course you're teaching this summer, Campus Copy can help. Please e-mail your E-Log spreadsheet to ccopy@dal.ca and drop your master copy off at Campus Copy as soon as you have it ready. If you are unable to give us two weeks of notice with your reader order, we will do our best to have them on the shelf as quickly as possible. The orders will be processed in the order they come through the door.

Here are some things to consider in your choice to produce a course reader:
    - Campus Copy uses "Earth Choice" copy paper which comes from sustainable sources and we offer 100% recycled paper as an even more sustainable option
    - Students benefit from reading from a paper source rather than an electronic source because it allows them to highlight passages and make notes on the pages
    - You are supporting students by working with Campus Copy as it is primarily a student-run business

If you have any questions about the E-Log process or the copyright laws, please feel free to contact Jennifer Miles at 494-1240 or ccopy@dal.ca. We look forward to working with you soon!

  9. From: The Office of Human Rights, Equity & Harassment Prevention
    Subject: Revised Sexual Harassment Policy

After consultation with various members and groups within the University Community, the Sexual Harassment Policy, initially approved in 1999, has been revised.

The new policy has been streamlined to be more user-friendly, reflect our practice and to bring it more in line with the Personal Harassment Policy and the Statement on Prohibited Discrimination, other policies that are administered through our office. Time limitations have been clearly defined and Roles and Responsibilities of the Advisor and the Advisory Committee are now a stand-alone document.

The new policy has been posted on the website at http://hrehp.dal.ca/index.php

  15. From: Dalhousie Art Gallery
Subject: Gerald Ferguson's Choral Reading at the Art Gallery

In conjunction with Unbound: An exhibition in three chapters, which features unique artist's books, the Dalhousie Art Gallery is pleased to present a performance of the late artist Gerald Ferguson's Choral Reading. The performance will take place on Sunday 15 April at 2 pm in the Sculpture Court of the Dalhousie Arts Centre. Choral Reading features 26 readers seated in a circle, each representing a letter of the alphabet, reciting words drawn from Ferguson's publication The Standard Corpus of Present Day English Language Usage arranged by word length and alphabetized within word length. This work was originally performed in 1972 at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Born in Cincinnati and educated at Ohio University, Gerald Ferguson (1937-2009) came to Canada in 1968 to teach at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University). After his retirement in 2005, he continued to live, work and teach in Nova Scotia while maintaining a vigorous studio practice. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and he has had major solo shows at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Canada.  In 1996 he was awarded the coveted Molson Prize for the Arts. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections in Canada, the US and Europe including the Museum of Modern Art (New York). Over the years the Dalhousie Art Gallery had been collecting works by Gerald Ferguson and in 2006 we received a major donation of 18 works from the artist. We now have one of the most comprehensive and representative collections of this important artist's work in Canada.

For more information, please contact the Art Gallery at 494-2403.
