On Monday April 16, a group of King's students will board the King's Express for Montreal. This is a Sustainability King's initiative, aimed at getting students out of airplanes at the end of term and onto the train, thereby reducing carbon emissions. The students negotiated the deal with Via Rail, which enables them to travel to Montreal for just $99 + HST. It is hoped that this is the first of what will be many such journeys.
You are invited to be present for the send-off at 11 a.m. at the Via Rail station.
The Tupper Concert Band (http://tupperband.medicine.dal.ca) presents a spring concert on Sunday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at St. David’s Presbyterian Church (1537 Brunswick Street). Admission is $10 regular and $7 for students and seniors, and tickets are available at the door and from the Dalhousie Medical Alumni Association (494-8800). Special guests include the male vocal group, the Testostertones of the Dalhousie Music in Medicine Program.
Begun in 1979, the band consists of students, professors and staff at Dalhousie University’s faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences (and the affiliated teaching hospitals), who meet weekly to forget the stresses of their daily activities and to relax by making music. During the past 32 years at least 300 students have played in the band during their studies at Dalhousie.
This year’s Annual Spring Concert will include a wide range of music that should appeal to all tastes: there will be marches, folk melodies from both North and South America, and “pop” classics and instrumental arrangements written especially for this concert. All proceeds are in aid of the Music-in-Medicine Scholarship, established to honour Dr. Bernard Badley, the band’s conductor since its inception in 1979.
