New Job Application System
To address significant technical challenges, the Department of Human Resources is preparing to transition from its current on-line staffing application system to a new on-line system, CBX, hosted by CareerBeacon, effective April 16th, 2012.
To assist system users, (applicants and hiring Managers) a representative from CareerBeacon will join members of the Recruitment and Retention team in facilitating a two hour training session from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Wednesday, April 11th, 2012. The training will cover applying for postings by setting up a ‘MyBeacon Account’ and viewing your postings for hiring managers.
User guides will be available on the Human Resources website http://humanresources.dal.ca after the implementation of the new system to assist applicants and hiring units. Please note, all hiring and selection processes and practices remain unchanged and in accordance with appropriate collective agreement(s), handbook(s) and other policies.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research are hosting a free, catered, public event proving information and promoting dialogue on personality and health. This event is titled “Your Personality and Your Mood: Can Your Personality Make You Anxious, Manic, or Depressed?” and will take place at Mongolie Grill (1645 Granville Street, Halifax) on Sunday, April 29th at 1:00 PM. The mandate of this event is to demystify, destigmatize, and disseminate knowledge on mood and personality to the public in an accessible way. Dr. Simon Sherry (Dalhousie University) will discuss the link between perfectionism and depression; Dr. Sherry Stewart (Dalhousie University) will discuss the link between anxiety sensitivity and anxiety; and, Dr. Anne Duffy (Dalhousie University) will discuss the link between neuroticism and bipolar disorder.

The selected applicant will teach ASSC 3150, Intercultural Communication. The Calendar description for ASSC 3150 follows:
In this highly interactive class, students will study and apply key concepts of intercultural communication with the goal of developing an empathic understanding of other cultures and an ability to communicate effectively across cultures. Topics include: awareness of one?s own culture (values, norms) and of variations within it; verbal and nonverbal elements of communication, hierarchy ("power distance"), collectivism vs individualism, direct/indirect communication styles, gender, conflict management styles, leadership styles. As the capstone component of the Certificate in Intercultural Communication, it requires a synthesis project bringing together the elements of the Certificate.
The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation,
evaluation and electronic submission of grades. The Part-Time Academic is expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the Advisory Committee and Advisor for the Certificate, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course. The Part-Time Academic reports to the Chairperson of the Department.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Master's degree in an appropriate field, plus previous university teaching experience. Lived intercultural experience and evidence of intercultural sensitivity, familiarity with current research in intercultural communication.
In addition to a letter of application, candidates must submit a CV and two letters of reference, and any further supporting document they deem relevant, such as student evaluations, etc.
