WORK ASSIGNMENT: Responsibilities include development of course materials, teaching, student evaluation, administration of the course, working with/supervising a teaching assistant. Topics include: introduction to university study, conceptual models of health and illness, health care systems, models of care, professionalism, communication and the application of research knowledge to practice.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Knowledge of health services research and critical thinking methods. Previous teaching experience desired. A relevant master's degree preferred. Experience with BLS or equivalent would be considered an asset. Excellent organizational and written communication skills are required.

Research experience shall include at least one of the following: graduate classes taken in the subject matter of the course, graduate theses written in the subject matter of the course, publications or presentations on topics falling within the subject matter of the course.
An assessment of teaching performance is now required of each instructor annually. The assessment is carried out by the Chair of the Department on the basis of various types of evidence including course evaluations from this or other classes.

This is a very demanding, high-enrollment class, one requiring a master teacher with charisma, good projection, and the ability to command the room. In addition to philosophical qualifications, it would be an asset to have some background in business, or in teaching some other area of applied ethics.
