(Halifax, NS) Dalhousie University presents our G2 Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 4, 2015.

Rachelle Lalande, Soccer

First-year midfielder Rachelle Lalande is this week’s G2 Female Athlete of the Week.

Rachelle scored her first AUS career goal, helping the Tigers to a tie and a loss over the weekend.

In Saturday’s 2-2 tie with Acadia, Rachelle opened the scoring in the first half of the game with her first goal of the season in Wolfville. The next day, she put in a strong 90-minute performance in the Tigers 1-0 loss to the UPEI Panthers.

The Halifax, N.S. native is a kinesiology student.

Matt McNeil, Cross Country

Fifth-year runner Matt McNeil is this week’s G2 Male Athlete of the Week.

Matt won his third race of the year, leaving him undefeated thus far in his fifth and final season.

At the AUS-Interlock cross country meet at l’université de Laval on Saturday, Matt clocked a time of 24:58 in the men’s 8km race, finishing a full 25 seconds ahead of the pack. In doing so, he defeated the entire CIS number two ranked Laval team on their home course.

Matt’s previous wins came at the SMU/DAL Invitational September 12 and at the Vic Matthews Open, hosted by the University of Guelph on September 19.

A native of Saint John, N.B., Matt is an engineering student.
