Desiree Nouwen, Volleyball

 

First-year outside hitter Desiree Nouwen is this week’s G2 Female Athlete of the Week.

Nouwen led the Tigers to a fourth place finish at the 2014 CIS Women’s Volleyball Championship this past weekend. She collected 51 kills, 31 digs and 54.5 total points in three matches during the tournament on her way to being named to the championship all-star team. Nouwen was named an AUS first team all-star earlier in the season.

In their quarter-final win over no. 3 ranked Trinity Western, Nouwen had 15 kills and 14 digs on her way to collecting 15 points and was named the Dalhousie’s player of the match. In Saturday’s semifinal loss no. 2 Manitoba, she had 17 kills and six digs for 17.5 total points. She added 19 kills and 11 digs for 21 total points in their loss to Laval.

Bryan Duquette, Volleyball

 

Fourth-year outside hitter Bryan Duquette is this week’s G2 Male Athlete of the Week.

Duquette helped the Tigers to a sixth place finish at the CIS men’s volleyball championship at the University of Calgary over the weekend.

In Thursday’s quarter-final loss to no. 5 Laval, Duquette had seven kills, five digs and 9.5 total points. The next day, he added 12 kills, four service aces and 10 digs, good for 17 total points in the Tigers consolation semifinal win over no. 8 Montreal, earning him player of the match honours. On Saturday, Duquette had six kills, four digs and seven total points in the Tigers consolation final loss to no. 3 Trinity Western.

A native of St. Thomas ON, Bryan is a kinesiology student.
