Dalhousie’s efficiency efforts have been celebrated by the province’s efficiency experts.
Efficiency Nova Scotia recently hosted the Bright Business conference, with the highlight being a series of awards bestowed on organizations and individuals who have made serious waves on the green energy front. And Dalhousie received the Bright Star award for
outstanding energy efficiency within a large business or organization.

Director of Sustainability Rochelle Owen says the award demonstrates recognition of Dal's energy efficiency work over the last five years. During this time the Dalhousie team has implemented over 12 energy efficiency and water projects with partners, from upgrades to campus lighting, to commercial kitchens to campus building.
She’s proud that this work has been acknowledged. “Receiving this award feels great!” she says, noting there’s much still to do. “Dalhousie and our partners have invested over $40 million in sustainability-related projects and released an utility master plan (energy and water) and climate change plan. We have our sights set on a number new projects for implementation in the next five years.”
The university was in good company at the awards ceremonies, sharing the awards podium with such organizations as Capital Health, Oxford Frozen Foods and Summerhill.
