The beautiful game

While the tall ships were berthed in Halifax Harbour, Dalhousie University played host to 10 international teams from the fleet. Players from England, Russia, Portugal, the U.S. and Belgium appreciated the opportunity to stretch their legs and socialize on the Sexton soccer pitch away from the large waterfront crowds. The quality of the players, especially from the larger ships, led to some spirited matches.

Beverly Hiscock, Chair of Crew Services and Cultural Events for Tall Ships Nova Scotia 2009, echoed the many compliments received from the crews for the hospitality they experienced from their Dalhousie hosts. The hot showers were also appreciated as many of the smaller craft have limited facilities on board.

Great initiative there Joe! It was clear that all the participants were enjoying themselves immensely. The games were very exciting. I hope the fencing around the field is completed soon so you won't have to run down into the parking lot to get the ball as much (LOL). Thanks for the immense volunteer effort on behalf of the University Joe.
