Do you know where your fish comes from? If not, would you like to know? If you answered yes, you are not alone.
There is increasing concern amongst consumers surrounding the lack of disclosure of information and data from the seafood sector, and this is coupled with a movement generally seeing consumers desiring more connection to their food sources.
Eric Enno Tamm’s seminar on Wednesday March 30th offered traceability as a mechanism to address this concern. Eric and his colleagues at ThisFish and Ecotrust Canada develop traceability systems that provide information on fishing activities, such as who caught the fish, where, when and how.
What are Traceability Systems?
Traceability systems are important for proving legality, increasing transparency and verifying sustainability claims. By keeping an eye out for traceable seafood products in your local grocery store, you can ensure that you are making informed seafood choices.
