The School of Information Management is pleased to announce that Master of Library and Information Studies student, Leah Boulos, has been selected as the third recipient of the Dalhousie-Horrocks National Leadership Fund.

This Fund was established in 2007 to honour Dr. Norman Horrocks, OC, PhD, FCLIP (1927-2010) for his outstanding leadership in the field of librarianship in North America, Australia, and Europe. Over several decades Dr. Horrocks, former Director of the School of Information Management and Dean of the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University, pursued a distinguished career of very active involvement in professional associations in the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Australia, the United States, and Canada. His many contributions, for which he received local, national and international recognition, have advanced the field and the careers of countless individuals. The fund supports a scholarship and an associated lecture series through an endowment donated by the many former students, colleagues, friends and admirers of Norman Horrocks.

Leah Boulos, inspired by many wonderful mentors throughout her life, hopes to join their ranks as a dynamic future leader in Information Management. She comes to the field with a background in music, having completed her Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Mount Allison University in 2010. Upon entering the Dalhousie School of Information Management, where she was the proud recipient of a Faculty of Graduate Studies Scholarship, Leah quickly began to develop interests in health sciences librarianship, research support services, and the management of information organisations. Outside of the classroom, she is Co-Chair of the Dalhousie Journal of Interdisciplinary Management, where she leads a team of students from all programs within the Faculty of Management in the production of an annual open access journal of graduate-level work.

Currently, Leah works as a student intern at the W.K. Kellogg Health Sciences Library on Dalhousie campus. This excellent introduction to health sciences librarianship has encouraged her to consider a career in the field. In particular, she is interested in the role of librarians as respected leaders in the health sciences research process.

In her spare time, Leah performs with the Xara Choral Theatre Ensemble, which was named the top women’s choir in Canada in 2013. Their most recent season culminated in a critically-appraised tour across the Maritimes. Leah has also mentored the Xara Youth Ensemble. Her other hobbies include cooking, cross stitching, and travelling.
