Auditing Courses

MI students may audit the equivalent of 6 credit hours in each residency year of their formal program. The courses must be relevant to the student's program of study. Students auditing a class pay one-half of the regular tuition fee plus auxiliary fees, if applicable.

Permission must be obtained from the course instructor before registering in the course as an audit student. The minimum requirement for an audit student is attendance in all classes. Instructors may deny the audit request because of space limitations, subject content, mode of delivery and/or the need for pre-requisites.

Audit students are not expected to prepare assignments, write papers, tests or examinations. Audits appear on transcripts with an "AUD" notation. Should Audit students decide to do assignments or write papers, instructors will not evaluate, comment or grade such efforts.

Registration Process

The audit option becomes available via Dal Online during the first day of classes each term. Students first register for the courses in the normal way. Once registered, they change their registration via the drop down option (Audited). This will change their for-credit registration to an audit registration.

Students can change a course from audit to credit or credit to audit, but must do so before the last day to drop courses without a "W." To make the change, get in touch with the Registrar's Office.
