Call for Nova Scotia organizations: Work with students on class‑based consulting projects

Working with you to develop class-based consulting projects

Dalhousie’s Rowe School of Business is enhancing the way students work on real problems confronting Nova Scotia organizations. Professors will partner student teams with NS firms, NGOs and governments to address issues over an eight-month period rather than the traditional four-month term. The expansion of this MBA initiative is appropriately called the “Make a Difference” (MAD) Project.

Gain a fresh perspective on strategy, market development or management practice

During the fall term, research is undertaken on the organization and its strategy in the context of the industry and broader environment in which it operates. Later in the first term, and in consultation with the sponsoring organization’s leadership, an important strategic issue will be identified and refined. In the winter term, alternative solutions will be identified and assessed. The project will conclude in April with a set of recommendations and a plan for implementation.

Engage with students, in the final eight months of their degree

This eight-month model provides the student with additional time to develop a fuller understanding of real-world projects. This additional insight should offer sponsoring organizations a more comprehensive project report. Business students will have a particular interest in strategic projects dealing with issues such as competitiveness, innovation, sustainability, management, marketing and international trade.

Become a sponsoring partner

Please contact us at RSBconnect@dal.ca if you're interested in having MBA students work with you on projects starting in the Fall of 2015. We will work with you over the coming months to develop a potential project outline that students will bid on as they select projects for the final eight months of their degree.

Sponsoring partners will be asked to pay for any out-of-pocket expenses (mostly travel) where necessary. No salary is expected, or requested, as these projects represent experiential learning opportunities for senior students.

The Rowe School already has a significant record of providing business with consulting support. Each year MBA and Commerce students work on over 70 community projects. Through RSBconnect we want to enhance this contribution to Nova Scotia by extending the time and support offered for these projects.
