The Schulich School of Law would like to congratulate the Indigenous Blacks & Mi'kmaq (IB&M) Initiative on being named this year’s recipient of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) Award of Excellence in Education.
Founded in 1989, the IB&M Initiative was developed to help increase representation of Indigenous Blacks and Mi'kmaq in the legal profession. For 25 years, it has worked to become a model for access to legal education and the legal profession across Canada and the United States.
The CRRF awards are given out every two years as part of the CRRF's Best Practices initiative. They recognise strategies or initiatives that have demonstrated promise, success and social impact. The purpose is to acknowledge of those programs that build an awareness and understanding of Canadian values and identity that are reflective of Canadian diversity and respectful race relations.
"Our award winners represent organizations that have taken the ideals of harmonious race relations and social cohesion, and transformed them into successful, sustainable programs that can be reproduced," said Albert Lo, chairperson of Canadian Race Relations Foundation.
On November 18, 2014, the IB&M will be honoured with the CRRF Award of Excellence in Education at a ceremonial dinner held in Ottawa. Congratulations to all of the individuals that put their time and hard work into the IB&M Initiative.
