KUDOS! William Lahey appointed as Chair of NSHRF

The Schulich School of Law would like to congratulate William (Bill) Lahey on his recent appointment as Chair of the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF). The NSHRF was founded in 2000 and aims to improve the health of Nova Scotians through research into the health field. A former Vice-Chair for the NSHRF, Lahey was appointed to Chair on July 30, 2014.

Lahey studied at Mount Allison University (BA), and earned his law degrees from Oxford University (B.A., Jurisprudence) where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and the University of Toronto (LL.M.)

He joined the Schulich faculty as an Associate Professor in 2001. He is a member and past Director of the Dalhousie Health Law Institute and a member of Dalhousie’s Marine and Environmental Law Institute.  He teaches Public Law, Administrative Law, Health Systems Law and Policy and is the winner of two Law School teaching awards.

From 1989-90, Lahey clerked for Mr. Justice La Forest of the Supreme Court of Canada, then went on to practice with McInnes, Cooper & Robertson and later with the NS Department of Justice as solicitor to the Department of Labour. He then held senior administrative positions in the NS Department of Human Resources and the NS Department of Health.  From 2004 to 2007 he was Deputy Minister of Nova Scotia’s Department of Environment and Labour.

He has published in the fields of health law, administrative law, constitutional law, environmental law, and legal history. In addition to his role as Chair of the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF), he is the founding Chair of the Board of Directors of Efficiency Nova Scotia Corporation.
