Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

This graduate training program is a six-year joint program leading to a Doctor of Medicine/Master of Science in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. The program uses the facilities of the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, the IWK-Grace Health Care Centre and Dalhousie University, all located in Halifax.

This is a very competitive program that accepts one student per year. Applications must be received by August 31 for a June 1 start the following year.

Students receive extensive training in surgical correction of dentofacial deformities, cleft lip and palate, maxillofacial trauma and other surgery as it pertains to the specialty. An important part of the program is devoted to research, including an original research project leading to a master's thesis and defence.

The program, while formally based in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, is substantially a hospital-based program.
