2016 Table Clinic winners
A snowstorm cancelled the 2016 Table Clinics and Dental Hygiene Professional Presentations back in January, but the participants at the rescheduled event, which took place on April 1, retained their enthusiasm and professional polish.
The 40 DDS3 students and 40 year-two dental hygiene students had diligently researched prepared their presentations for months. The DH students worked in teams of four and delivered presentations to their audience on topics related to the topic of “A client presents to the dental hygiene office with a medical emergency”.
The dentistry students carried out individual projects, preparing a research poster and presentation that they delivered to the 20 roving judges comprising alumni and practising dentists.
Commenting on the quality of the presentations, Dr. Debora Matthews, assistant dean of research, said “When I first started attending [Table Clinic night], the presentations were primarily clinically oriented – mostly about new techniques or products. . .I was most astonished on [April 1] at the breadth and depth of the vast majority of table clinics. From public dental health and Aboriginal health, to empathy of dental students, validity of dental school admission tests, and basic science to clinical studies. Nearly every student I spoke with had an in-depth understanding of the research around their subject.”
Congratulations to all the winners and the researchers, advisors, and educators who supported their efforts.
