Call for Applications for DFCS‑GHC 2016 Scholarships

Applications are now open for the Dalhousie Faculty of Computer Science – Grace Hopper Celebration (DFCS-GHC) Scholarships. 

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is the world’s largest gathering of women technologists. It is produced by the Anita Borg Institute and presented in partnership with ACM. The DFCS-GHC Scholarships will partially cover your cost of attendance at this year’s GHC conference on October 19 - 21. Learn more about last year’s conference experience and how to make the most of your time there. 

Submit your application

If you’re interested in attending the GHC’2016 to represent Dalhousie FCS this year, please submit the following documents to Dr. Nur Zincir-Heywood, Chair of CoReCS at zincir@cs.dal.ca by Sunday, May 15 at 4pm:

  • Your resume or CV
  • Names and contact details of faculty/staff members that could provide a reference for you if needed (please let them know you will be using their name)
  • One-page essay discussing:
    • Your activities to help promote a culture of respect and diversity in FCS
    • Why you think you are a good candidate to represent Dal FCS at GHC’2016
    • How it will help you and our Faculty to enhance the learning, social, and working environment for everyone in FCS

We encourage both undergraduate and graduate students from the Faculty of Computer Science to apply. The CoReCS committee will inform the applicants once the review process is completed.

Please note that other resources are available to you on campus (whether you’re a successful scholarship winner or not) to further help you pay your way to this conference:

  • Computer Science Graduate Society
  • Career and Leadership Development Centre (in the Student Union Building)
  • Dalhousie President’s Office
  • Dalhousie Science Society and Dalhousie Arts Society (If you are linked to other societies or faculties then these two options may also be available to you)
