Dedicated Students Celebrated at Faculty of Agriculture Graduation Banquet

Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Agriculture celebrated its annual Convocation Friday, May 13th with 234 students joining the Agriculture Alumni Association.

Celebrations began Thursday, May 12th with the Graduation banquet.   The banquet is a highlight of graduation celebrations and provides an opportunity for members of the graduating class to be recognized with Distinguished Graduate Awards.             

This year, Distinguished Graduate Awards were presented to Kamryn Findlay, Morgan McNeil and Emily Davis and Roasalie Madden

The Distinguished Graduate Award is designed to express the Faculty’s acknowledgment and appreciation to graduating students, who have, through their time, energy, talent and leadership enriched the campus community during their studies without neglecting academic pursuits. Recipients are recognized for contributions made through their involvement over time in multiple activities, including, but not limited to, student government, campus activities, community service, sport and recreation, internationalization, or other campus programs.

The Noel Enman Memorial Award, instituted in 1984, is presented annually to a technician or technology graduate whose personality and fellowship has contributed to student life and activities thereby gaining the respect of students and faculty. This award was presented to Veterinary Technology student Lindsay Russell.

“I extend my best wishes to all of our graduates. As they move on to become leaders in agriculture and other industries, I know they received an excellent foundation here at the Faculty of Agriculture and they will make us proud,” said Assistant Dean Students & Academic Administration, Keltie Jones.

Other awards presented include the Klaus De Geus Memorial Award for Plant Science to Tessa Macaulay; Ketchum Manufacturing Company Limited Prize to Amy Unicomb; the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society Book Prize to Lauren van Zutphen; the Dr. Gerry W. Friars Undergraduate Research Award to Andrew Waida and the Elanco Canada Limited Award to Kassidy Baker.

The Class of 2016 presented the traditional Class Composite to the Faculty during the banquet and have planted a Magnolia Tree on the patio behind Jenkins Hall.
