Health Status and Services

Access is the key

Being able to get and use prevention, diagnostic and treatment services has been shown to improve the health of populations. Both women and men need health services, but barriers to these services may have a greater impact on women who:

  • tend to need and use reproductive health services more than men do
  • live longer, on average, than men do and consequently are more likely to experience age-related health conditions
  • provide the majority of unpaid care for dependent children and adults

ACEWH's research underscored the importance of acknowledging and addressing barriers to health services and tailoring health services to the needs of women and girls.
