Idle-Free Program

Did you know?

If drivers of light-duty vehicles avoided idling by just three minutes a day, over the year Canadians would collectively save 630 million litres of fuel and 1.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Dalhousie's Idle-free Guidelines  [PDF - 216 kB] were released May 2010, and Idle-free signage has been posted around campus. A greening fleet program is in the works.

Educating the Campus on our Idle-Free guidelines

To help support the implementation of the idle-free guidelines the Office of Sustainability has partnered with organizations on campus, prepared a powerpoint presentation, and an educational card [PDF - 630 kB] that can be handed out. Consider using these resources to educate others on the guidelines.

You can also email rethink@dal.ca and Office staff will be pleased to present a lunch and learn session and provide educational cards. Throughout the year anti-idling surveys are conducted to pinpoint problem areas for further education. Certain Dalhousie fleet cars have been installed with idling notification software.
