Dr. Richard Florizone brings academic and organizational leadership to Dalhousie.
Dr. Richard Florizone joined Dalhousie University as its 11th president and vice-chancellor on July 1, 2013.
Dr. Florizone’s career spans academia, government and the private sector in Canada and abroad. He earned his PhD in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has held leadership roles with the World Bank Group, Bombardier Aerospace, Cambridge University and the Boston Consulting Group. Immediately prior to joining Dalhousie, Dr. Florizone served as vice-president, finance and resources at the University of Saskatchewan for seven years.
In addition to being the chief executive of Atlantic Canada’s leading research-intensive university, Dr. Florizone currently serves on the boards of the Nova Scotia Research and Innovation Trust, the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies and Innovacorp, a crown corporation that invests in early stage Nova Scotia start-up companies. He also serves as a director on the board of Universities Canada and was inducted as fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in June 2015.
