NSERC Engage Program Updates

Posted by Suman Jha on December 21, 2015 in Announcements

The NSERC Engage program helps University and College researchers to establish new industrial relationships by funding short term research and development projects. Researchers in the natural sciences and engineering disciplines have the opportunity to apply their expertise to address a challenge faced by the partnering company, while the company in turn can apply world-class, cutting edge technologies and research to their business needs. The NSERC Engage program provides a vital first step in developing strong, ongoing  relationships between researchers and companies and provide a starting point for further collaborative projects.

Please be advised of the following changes to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council’s Engage Program:

  • Effective January 15, 2016, company partners must have at least two full-time employees and must have been in operation for at least two years, in addition to meeting other requirements outlined in the Industrial Participation section of the NSERC website. There is also a new limit on the number of Engage Grants for a company partner per fiscal year, effective April 1, 2016.
  • Effective January 15, 2016, applicants must have received an individual or small team peer-reviewed grant from NSERC within the past six years (such as a CRD or Discovery grant, not a prior Engage), as explained in the Requirements for university-based applicants section of the NSERC website.
  • Effective April 1, 2016, university researchers will be limited to one Engage Grant per fiscal year.

N.B. These changes are documented on the Engage website and may affect the eligibility of both companies and researchers to collaborate on Engage projects. Applications received prior to the stated deadlines will be evaluated according the rules in force on the date of submission to NSERC.
