Meeting the Tri‑Agency Open Access publication requirements through DalSpace

Posted by Alana Milner on April 17, 2015 in Announcements

On February 27, 2015, the Tri-Agency Policy on Publications was announced, requiring that grant recipients “ensure that any peer-reviewed journal publications arising from Agency-supported research are freely accessible within 12 months of publication”.

For research funded in whole or in part by NSERC or SSHRC, this policy applies to all grants awarded May 1, 2015 and onward. While not required, researchers holding grants awarded prior to May 1, 2015 are encouraged to adhere to the requirements of this policy.

For research funded in whole or in part by CIHR, this policy applies to all grants awarded January 1, 2008 and onward. While not required, researchers holding grants awarded prior to January 1, 2008 are encouraged to adhere to the requirements of this policy.

You can meet these requirements by depositing your copyright-compliant publications into DalSpace, the Dalhousie Institutional Repository. For most Faculties (with the exception of Medicine and Law, still underway), draft versions of research profiles for each faculty member have already been set up on your behalf in DalSpace, using information available from existing Dalhousie websites. These profiles have been automatically pre-populated with citation lists available from key bibliographic databases in your area, and we would like to work with faculty to ensure the lists are accurate. These profiles are intended to complement other existing profiles and we can link to other sites according to your preference. The citation lists can be edited, and your copyright-compliant (pre-print/post-print/publisher’s pdf) articles can be attached to the article citation.

You can view your draft research profile by searching using your name in DalSpace. To request modifications to your profile, deposit material, request assistance with determining copyright compliance for your material, or other questions, please contact dalspace-profiles@dal.ca. The draft designation will be removed once you approve your profile by notifying dalspace-profiles@dal.ca. For researchers in Medicine and Law, we will create profiles upon request, and otherwise continue to build out those profiles over the summer and next fall.
