Snow Removal & Ice Control Procedures

During the winter months clearing snow and ice control is a priority. Dalhousie is responsible for snow clearing and ice control across the Halifax Campuses and Agriculture Campus in Bible Hill. Snow is cleared and ice is managed as quickly and safely as possible with the resources available.

Priority is assigned to accessible building entrances, accessible ramps and pathways leading to those accessible entrances, emergency exits, curb-cuts, and street crossings. Priority is also given to residence buildings and meal hall facilities. Snow and ice control is completed on all vehicular parking lots, podiums, bike lanes, and pedestrian walkways.

HALIFAX CAMPUS PROCEDURES

External contractors and Facilities Management grounds crew make every effort to clear snow and manage ice by 7:00am. Due to unpredictability of weather events, and continuation and duration of snowfall, this is not always achievable. The crew will focus on priority areas when snow removal and ice control is challenging due to unpredictable weather events. Crews work to limit icy conditions by regularly salting prior to weather events.
